Kurosawa’s epic King Lear set in feudal Japan. I dislike the fact that Kurosawa only makes samurai films or films set in feudal Japan, but on the other hand, its Kurosawa. Can he misstep? Ran is excellent of course. Great vistas of armies marching on each other, sweeping shots across the Japanese landscape, mighty castles on the hilltops. It made me want to play Civ II as the Japanese, lucky I resisted. Another Kurosawa masterpiece.
