Breathless

This seems like Godard light. You have the elements that he uses a lot in his later films, but more focus. And the absurdity of the new wave. After finding a gun in the glovebox of a car he stole, Michel gets chased by two motorcycle police for a minor infraction. Turning on to a side road, his car stalls. A cop follows and he shoots. A simple car thief is now a wanted murderer. But he returns to Paris anyway to convince an American girl to go to Italy with him. The film was easy to watch, if not a little boring. I wasn’t waiting for the ending. But unlike Contempt which rewards the viewer in the end, this film left me unimpressed.
