Inglourious Basterds

The tension in Inglourious Basterds is ratcheted up to a maniacal level. The film is constantly on verge of violence, in any given scene, any character is expendable. Most excruciating was in the French tavern, 30 minutes of waiting for the other shoe to drop. Other then needing to relax afterwards, I enjoyed it more then most recent Tarantino films. Perhaps I got more the cinematic references. Or it was the performance of Christoph Waltz, who creates the most incredible, vile villain. He baits loquacious traps through his effortless charm across four languages. It's hard to hate him, he is a joy to watch, yet he is so ruthlessly evil.
