Big Fish

Big Fish feels like a return to Tim Burton's early films. An adult son tries to find where his father's fables end and his life begins. The film alternates between the fantastically conceived universe of elder Edward Bloom's stories and the pragmatic reality of his son Will. Drenched in a Southern Gothic, Burtonesque atmosphere the film excels at building up the father-son relationship for maximum emotional effect. It falls short with the extended casting and quickly loses momentum as it goes on extended vignettes. Big Fish what should be expected from Tim Burton, which is both refreshing and somewhat disappointing.
