On its most basic level the Conformist is an allegory of Italian fascism, but it goes far deeper. Unfortunately I was never engaged enough to dive in. I picked up on some of the great cinematography and the inventive editing, but I missed the overall point. It seems like a film that warrants re-viewing. Which is a shame, as I have no desire to do so.
