The Wind That Shakes the Barley was never engaging enough for it’s length or the demands of the complicated story. The first act, with local Irish boys turning into guerrilla solders is the best. The later intricates of the establishment of the Irish Free State and the subsequent civil war, overwhelmed the film. Hell of a conflict though.
