A Fassbinder film of the strange paring of an elderly German widow and a young Arabian guest worker. They meet randomly and seemly randomly become involved in a relationship, leading to marriage. The film address prejudice in nearly all its forms, even if Ali and Emmi’s relationship is fatally flawed.
