A nice historical film set in Hungry from the Austro-Hungarian Empire until just after the uprising against the communists. Ralph Fiennes plays 3 generations of the Sonnenschein family. It begins with the patriarch who builds his fortune bottling his father’s recipe for an alcohol: “A Taste of Sunshine”. He has two sons and a daughter, who become involved in the Monarchy and the temporary communist government after WWI. One of the sons, has a son who becomes a gold medalist fencer in the 1936 Olympics. He further has a son who works for the police hunting out former fascists. Each generation becomes progressively less Jewish and religious. I never realized how much happened in Hungry in such a short time.
