The Marriage Of Maria Braun

I sat on this film for a while, a German women takes a number of lovers as her husband is on the eastern front and then prison. But throughout all her affairs she reserves her heart for him. I didn’t need to wait, as the Germans know how to make entertaining and depressing post-war movies, with strong women determined to survive at all costs. And Fassbinder is among the best at bleak existential stories. Post-war Germany must have been a terrible, terrible place.
