I was surprised I hadn’t written about Amélie before. The film had stayed with me like I had just watched it last year. Jeunet’s modern, yet actually 1950’s Paris is a world away from the modern one. But it combines the best aspects of Delicatessen and City of Lost Children to create something that even the kids will love, while retaining the dark whimsy that made the other films so compelling.
