The Bicycle Thief

Viewed: 13 February 2004
Directed by: Vittorio De Sica
Listed in: Movies, Class

A dignified depiction the agony of a man who has run out of options. A man needs a bicycle for his first job in a year. He pawns his sheets to get it, then on the first day it is stolen. He must search Rome to find it or his family does not eat. The Bicycle Thief is a depiction of a man with his back up against the wall. He has no way out, he has to provide for his family. The film dives into his psyche as he desperately searches Rome. The anguish outside the soccer match in the end is unbearable. Its hard to say much about this film. It not only lives up to, but exceeds its reputation.
