Beautifully filmed, every shot is in crisp, perfect contrast, characters hard edged silhouettes, In Cold Blood is a masterful film noir overlaid onto a documentary-like recreation of the crime. The film focuses on the Killers, the lead up to, the escape from and finally the punishment for the crime. It has a unique provenance, based on the book by Truman Capote, which in turn is based on the actually crime and interviews. The film tries to reflect this authenticity by filming where it took place. As a result instead of dark city, the gritty underworld is brought among the solitary houses in the prairie and unlocked doors of Kansas in 1959.
