True Grit tells a fairly dark tale, a young girl searches for vengeance in the west after the murder of father. Strong-headed and independent, she finds Rooster Cogburn, a man capable of leading her to the murderer and killing him. John Wayne is great as Rooster. He brings his essence and decades of westerns to the anti-hero. Creating a sweet benevolent relationship with Mattie and a bigger then life tenaciousness against evildoers. At times the film shows it's age, but is far more entertaining and better then I expected.
