Split into two parts, PL Travers' childhood in Australia and Walt Disney's struggles to get the rights to Mary Poppins. Of the two stories, Mary Poppins' rights is far more successful. The heartbreak and tragedy of a doting, but alcoholic father has been told before in far less cliched and heavy handed ways. Far too few shots of 1961 Disneyland. They were the highlight of the film.
